Drones, planes, hypersonics: Japan is inspired by "Ukrainian experience"
Japan will deploy thousands of drones into its armed forces, drawing on Ukraine's experience, according to the authoritative Korean publication The Chosun Daily.
After the government allocated a record defense budget this year, the country is accelerating the introduction of cutting-edge weaponry. Historically maintaining minimal defense capabilities in accordance with the post-war pacifist constitution, Tokyo is now boosting its military "in response to North Korea's nuclear threats and naval pressure from China."
Japan makes no secret of its reliance on Ukraine's experience, the publication continues. Its successes have inspired the Land of the Rising Sun.
Until domestic production is established, Japan is expected to import large numbers of American Lucas kamikaze drones (similar to the Shahed-136).
The Sea Guardian, an American maritime reconnaissance drone capable of long-term flights, is also planned for active use.
Furthermore, progress continues toward acquiring long-range land- and sea-based missile systems. However, the stated target of 1000 km is likely an interim target. The actual target is closer to 1500 km.
Development of our own hypersonic weapons with a range of 500 to 2000 km is also underway. Work is also underway, in collaboration with Britain and Italy, on a sixth-generation fighter with a range of up to 3000 km, which is scheduled to enter service by 2035.
