The British are working on a new supersonic car
What do we know about ground speed? The record set to date is 1228 km / h. And yet, British designers working on the Bloodhound SSC project, whose name was changed to Bloodhound LSR (“Land Speed Record”) the day before, intend to beat him.
As a car, engineers plan to use a supersonic car, the development of which has been ongoing since 2007. According to the project, the car will be able to reach speeds of up to 1600 km / h, which will become a new world record.
The dimensions of the “four-wheeled rocket” are 12,9 x 2,5 x 3 meters. Weight is 6,4 tons. Bloodhound LSR is equipped with 3 engines: a Eurojet EJ200 turbofan from the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter and 2 Nammo rocket engines. It is assumed that thanks to the first, the car will develop a speed of up to 480 km / h, and then the rest will connect.
To slow the car, air brakes will be used, which will reduce the speed from maximum to 965 km / h. Then the braking parachute will be released, and when it reaches 400 km / h, the line of disc brakes will be suitable.
It is worth noting that the developers previously tested the Bloodhound LSR chassis. The speed did not exceed 320 km / h. But full tests and an attempt to establish a new world record are planned to be carried out this year. An 18-kilometer route has already been prepared for this event, running along the bottom of the dried-up lake Hakskinpan in the Kalahari desert (South Africa).
