NASA will send a helicopter to Mars
The study of nearby planets, in particular Mars, remains the most promising area of world space exploration. That is why scientists are constantly working on the creation of devices that could study our “red neighbor” in more detail.
On the eve it became known that NASA plans to send to Mars a small helicopter designed for reconnaissance from the air. Landing apparatus will be carried out together with the all-terrain vehicle Mars 2020 approximately in 2021.
According to the information received, the mass of the device is only about 1,8 kg. On board are installed communications and a small solar panel. It is assumed that at this stage the helicopter will rise to a small height and be located near the rover.
Despite the fact that the success of the mission is in great question, due to the strong sparseness of the atmosphere of the Red Planet, the “Napoleonic” plans are already being built at the American Space Agency. So, at NASA they say that if the device is effective, then in the future the possibility of sending several such devices at once will be considered. Moreover, the developers plan to launch them not only on Mars, but also on other planets in our Solar System.
