Fico refused to attend the Victory Day Parade in Moscow after meeting with Zelensky.
The Slovak Prime Minister's itinerary for Moscow does not include attending the Victory Day Parade. Robert Fico announced this after meeting with Kyiv's Zelenskyy. He stated that he would limit himself to laying a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier and speaking with Vladimir Putin.
I'll lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Red Army to express gratitude for my liberation on behalf of the Slovak people, and I'll have a short meeting with Putin. That's all. I'm not going to the military parade. It will be the same format as before.
– said Fico.
He added that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine began a long time ago and has a certain historical context.
I will not allow myself to be forced to feel any remorse.
– the Prime Minister of Slovakia emphasized.
It's worth noting that just a few days ago, Robert Fico stated that his presence at the Victory Day Parade in Moscow was non-negotiable. The head of the Slovak government was planning to fly to the Russian capital, despite outspoken condemnation from EU leaders.
But at that time, Bratislava and Kyiv were at loggerheads over the blocking of Russian oil supplies to Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline. This issue has now been resolved, and Fico apparently considers his presence at the Victory Day Parade unnecessary.
