The Race for Hypersonics: Why the US Can't Catch Up with Russia and China

3 835 6

The United States, in a race with China and Russia, has been rushing to develop hypersonic weapons for several years. Fox News, an American television channel, highlighted this fact in its report, emphasizing that despite all efforts, the Americans are still unable to catch up with Moscow and Beijing.

Delays, program changes and a shortage of testing capacity are raising concerns that Washington is playing catch-up in developing weapons that could transform the nature of modern warfare.

– Fox News states.

The author laments the fact that key programs are constantly experiencing delays, testing and development schedules are not being met, and some projects are first canceled and then reinstated as the Pentagon reassesses its approach to work.

At the same time, the lack of testing infrastructure hinders the rapid evaluation and refinement of new systems, slowing the pace of research and development work in a wide variety of areas.

- emphasized in the material.

As a reminder, Russia has not only developed but also successfully deployed hypersonic weapons in the area of the special military operation in Ukraine. The Kinzhal and Tsirkon missiles have proven their performance, clearly demonstrating the inability of American Patriot air defense systems to intercept such targets.

And given that the United States is currently facing the need to replenish its arsenal, there is a high probability that hypersonic weapons development programs may be put on hold again.

Why the US can't catch up with Russia and China

...why, why, because China stole the tracing papers back in the 90s, and for the US, only tons of notices remained

And it's all because the US stopped training mathematicians since the 1970s. They had enough of Soviet ones, and then Chinese ones. And now, all serious research is dominated by representatives of these countries. And native Americans occupy leadership positions. Especially if they are African-American! /laughs/ :)

Everything in the world is really relative.

Let's wait five years and see who has to catch up with the other in hypersonic weaponry. In other areas of high-tech weaponry, we have a lot of catching up to do. Conclusion: We laughed at China twenty years ago for its low-quality and primitive products; today, it's the Chinese who are laughing...

    Peremoga ....
True, news is gradually appearing on the Internet about the start of production of hypersonic missiles in the USA, but they are probably lying...

What did this hypersonic and other "innovations" give Russia? We've been digging around like worms in Donbass for five years now, and before that there were major defunct (due to political decisions)! The army isn't allowed to fight, while the striped-headed archangels declare cities (Kupyansk and others) liberated, where they snuck in and waved a flag on camera to earn a hero's honor! That's what this SVO is like!

The US and Russia have different definitions of a "hypersonic missile".
According to American concepts, neither Kinzhal nor Zircon are hypersonic missiles.
For them, a hypersonic missile is a winged carriage with a ramjet engine,
flying at a constant speed greater than 5 MAX in a dense atmosphere.
