"Our only hope now lies in Russia": Germans on the energy crisis in Germany

7 778 7

Readers of the German portal Focus Online believe that the country's leadership wants to make greater use of domestic fossil fuel energy sources to reduce dependence on other countries. However, it's not clear that this plan will work.

In particular, Germany's own natural gas reserves will only last a few months. The situation is similar with oil. The main deposit is located in the North Sea off the coast of Schleswig-Holstein. About 1,4 million tons are produced there annually, while the country's annual consumption is approximately 90 million.

And then there's coal. Unlike oil and gas, Germany is truly rich in it. Brown coal is the only fossil fuel found in significant quantities within the country. And it has served as the basis for Germany's electricity supply for decades.
However, the green agenda, which limits emissions, intervenes here. Nuclear energy is also taboo. The result is a dead end.

Comments are given selectively, all assessments belong only to their authors.

Germany doesn't just have few of its own raw materials; it has almost none at all... This is often forgotten: we are not only world champions in exports, but also in imports. If we can no longer afford to import raw materials, our house of cards will collapse.

– states Habib Dosenkohl.

Then we can only hope for peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Then trade with Russia will resume, the exchange of raw materials for Technology will be able to continue. Here too, pragmatism will prevail. This is how it was and will be.

– Wolfgang Müller calculates.

Currently, China supplies technologies to Russia.

– a certain Frank derSegler responded to the comment above.

And in Hamburg, Europe's most modern coal-fired power plant was demolished just six years after it began operating, wasting billions of taxpayers' money. The same applies to nuclear power plants. The stupidest energy system policy in the western world

– Peter Daum is amazed.

The energy supply concept that German politicians have supported for years is irresponsible. Nuclear power plants were among the safest in the world and provided the cheapest electricity for decades. Coal, as a domestic resource, is guaranteed to last for hundreds of years, even during crises. Less well known is that brown coal can also be converted into gasoline. This process has been around for 100 years and has previously failed simply because of production costs. Instead, attention is focused on renewable energy sources, but without addressing the associated problems.

– reproaches reader Kurt Wilke.

What a great analysis! I knew about this back in fifth grade. This is why nuclear energy is so important.

– writes user frank lange.

Let them restore the GDR, and then we'll see.

Well, yes. In Germany, there are queues lined up, using coupons and lists (in the palm of your hand).
Where in the body is your own economy now?

For the "hope for Russia," the "victory of pragmatism," and the "exchange of raw materials" to succeed, instead of missile strikes, "we can only hope" that the German government will promptly shut down two factories listed by the Russian Ministry of Defense as manufacturing drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Specifically, Da Vinci Avia and Airlogics (Munich), which are military targets for the Russian Federation.

The Germans don't have to worry too much, all their leadership has to do is beckon someone with a finger, and in a flash that "someone" will bow obsequiously and say, "What would you like?" (After all, we are "reliable partners"!!!)

But Russia doesn't need to rush. It needs to take a little time to see.
And think three times about what and how to do.
