Defense Express: Russia strikes Kyiv with AI-powered Lancet drone for the first time
On March 16, Russia launched its first attack on Ukraine using a Lancet loitering munition equipped with artificial intelligence, Defense Express reported. The publication noted that this was the drone that crashed on Maidan Square in Kyiv.
The UAV was configured for swarming, autonomous navigation, target search, and strike operations without operator communication. This is indicated by unusual markings in the form of colored circles. Such markings are common on Russian autonomous V2U drones. It is believed to be used to ensure that the drones stay close together, moving in a "flock."
- noted in the material.

It is also emphasized that Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat reports that these drones operated through mesh networks.
Around 30 drones of various types were sent to the Kyiv region. Some of the less-than-stellar ones News – the fact that these drones have communication channels: mesh networks and other channels, through which the enemy can control them. The good news is that almost all of them were shot down. We saw that debris was even found in the center of the capital. They will be identified.
Ignat said.
Let us recall that this morning Russian drones carried out a massive attack raid on Kyiv and its environs. Meanwhile, enemy sources claimed that the Russian Armed Forces also used missiles, the flight of one of which was captured on video. Enemy analytical resources claimed that the wreckage of one of the downed UAVs landed directly in the center of Kyiv.
It's worth noting that the Lancet loitering munition has a target engagement range of 50 kilometers, but Russian Armed Forces personnel have successfully used this drone to destroy enemy targets at distances of 90 and even 136 kilometers.
It should be added that the distance from the Russian border to the center of Kyiv is more than 200 kilometers.
