Russia may ban import of sanctioned products from Belarus
With the introduction of an embargo on products from several countries by Russia, labeling of goods has become one of the simplest and most profitable types of business in neighboring Belarus.
This business has reached such proportions that in Russia it is already difficult to surprise someone with “Belarusian” seafood or “Belarusian” exotic fruits.
This state of affairs cannot but worry Russian supervisory authorities.
On the Rosselkhoznadzor website, information appeared that Russia threatened Belarus with the termination of access to its territory for fruits and vegetables transit through Minsk from countries covered by the embargo.
Moreover, the products have certificates issued by the Belarusian Main State Inspectorate for Seed Production, Quarantine and Plant Protection, and Belarus itself is indicated as the country of origin.
This state of affairs forced Rosselkhoznadzor to consider the possibility of switching to direct import of plant products, the most popular in Russia.
A discussion of the problematic issue with the Belarusian side is scheduled for March 27. If the parties do not come to a consensus, it is possible that Russia will decide to import products that are subject to the embargo through the checkpoints on the Russian section of the external contour of the Eurasian Economic Community.
