Russia will build a new station in Antarctica
In January 2020, the world community will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica. The new station will be a complex with a total area of 2,5 thousand square meters. m. It will consist of five modules: residential, recreation areas, laboratories, power plants and a garage. This will significantly expand the capabilities of the Russian Antarctic expedition.
The department’s plans do not end there. The following works have already been planned: the construction of a new wintering complex at Mirny station, the modernization of the fuel base at Bellingshausen station, and the expedition infrastructure at Russkaya station.
Currently, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Roshydromet and the Ministry of Economic Development are preparing an inter-program project to implement these measures.
Kerimov noted that the 64th Russian Antarctic expedition "Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute" Roshydromet is currently being held in Antarctica. Scientific work is carried out at seven sites: five wintering stations Mirny, Vostok, Novolazarevskaya, Progress and Bellingshausen, and at two seasonal field bases Molodezhnaya and Oasis Banger.
