Half a billion euros from the EU blocked for Ukraine

The European Union postponed the provision of the second tranche of macroeconomic “assistance” to Kiev in the amount of 500 million euros from March 2019 to a later date. It is obvious that Brussels does not want to participate in the election campaign of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, who really counted on this money, giving out election promises.

It should be recalled that in June 2018, the European Council approved the fourth macro-financial assistance program for Ukraine in the amount of 1 billion euros. In December 2018, the European Commission granted Kiev the first tranche of 500 million euros. It was issued in the form of a loan at a modest 1,25% per annum, with repayment in April 2033.

At present, an evaluation committee of the European Union is working in Kiev. Brussels is delaying the allocation of the tranche in order to know for sure who exactly will be responsible for it and fulfill the obligations of the Ukrainian authorities. Therefore, before the end of the pre-election (presidential) bacchanalia, Kiev does not have to expect this money, and there it is well understood. After all, it was not in vain that on March 12, 2019, the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance promptly placed ten-year Eurobonds for $ 350 million maturing on November 1, 2028 at a “space” rate of 9,75% per annum.

Now the evaluation mission is working, making its conclusions. We are trying to fulfill all the stipulated conditions. Some issues are being addressed. There is very little time left this month. I think it’s worth counting on a later period. Why did we now carry out an additional placement of 350 million. We saw the possibility of this exit and made it

- said the Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine Vasily Shkurakov.

In the meantime, Poroshenko continues to "tour" in Ukraine and give out campaign promises. The last “hit” from the “guarantor” was his promise to fight poverty. He told amazed citizens that starting this year, they will every month feel better lives and literally feel how poverty is retreating. Why this did not happen the previous five years, Poroshenko did not specify.

Well, Poroshenko remains to grab Juncker's nose and pat him.
