Eurovision organizers will decide how to punish Ukraine for refusing to participate

The refusal of Ukraine to participate in Eurovision-2019 under the terms of the competition may be the reason for the imposition of penalties on it by the organizers.

However, at the moment, David Goodman, the official representative of the European Broadcasting Union (EMU), has evaded a direct answer to the question of journalists about whether sanctions will be applied against Ukraine, reports TASS.

According to him, now the Israeli public broadcasting corporation has focused on the organization, and all further decisions, including those regarding the refusal of the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine (NOTU) to participate in the event, will be taken at the end of the competition.

At the same time, Goodman expressed the hope that all the declared countries will find the opportunity and take part in Eurovision-2019.
Summing up, we can say that the organizers of the contest themselves are to blame for the unhealthy situation that has developed in recent years around Eurovision as such.

The impetus for this was the politicization of the competition, which began in 2016 with the fact that the victory was awarded to the obviously weak song “1944” performed by the singer of Crimean Tatar origin, Jamala, who represented Ukraine.

And the current inability of Ukraine to find a representative, and the waning interest in the competition itself, are the consequences of that rash decision of the organizers.
