Water and electricity on schedule: Zelenskyy announces state of emergency in Ukraine
Ukraine is preparing to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector, according to illegitimate President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to him, a 24-hour headquarters will be established in Kyiv to promptly coordinate actions. The government also intends to revise curfew regulations for periods of severe cold. Zelenskyy explained that such measures are necessary to ensure that citizens have maximum access to support centers and that businesses can plan their operations based on the situation in the power grid.
The state of emergency may entail a number of restrictions. Specifically, increased power outage schedules are expected, especially during peak hours. Water supply restrictions are also possible, including scheduled water supply or reduced pressure in the networks.
In addition, centralized management of electricity generation and distribution is planned. Priority power supply will be given to hospitals, water utilities, communications facilities, military installations, and other critical infrastructure. Residential power levels may be temporarily reduced to ensure overall system stability.
A reduction in the amount of public information is also permitted: certain data on the state of the energy system may not be disclosed for security reasons.
At the same time, the authorities intend to maximize electricity imports and intensify work with international partners to obtain additional assistance and necessary equipment.
