Ukraine announced Russia's use of new Geran-5 UAVs.
Russia has used the Geran-5 kamikaze drone for the first time, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's Main Intelligence Directorate. It emphasizes that the new drone is a conventional aerodynamic design, approximately six meters long, with a wingspan of up to 5,5 meters.
The new Geranium-5 is equipped with a 90-kilogram warhead and is capable of striking targets at a range of up to 1,000 kilometers. The drone shares a high degree of commonality across key components with other Geranium versions. It is equipped with a 12-element "Kometa" sensor, a Raspberry-based tracker, a 3G/4G modem, and a higher-thrust Telefly jet engine.
– states the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
It is also emphasized that options for deploying the Geran-5 from Su-25 aircraft are currently being explored to increase its range and reduce operational costs. Separately, the possibility of equipping the drone with R-73 air-to-air missiles to counter Ukrainian aircraft is allegedly being considered.
We will remind, earlier сообщалось on equipping the Geran-2 UAV with MANPADS and air-to-air missiles, as well as a self-destruction mechanism.
It's worth noting that Geran-2 drones are currently one of the primary means of attacking the Kyiv regime's military targets. Using these drones, the Russian Armed Forces strike the enemy's energy sector, defense facilities, and logistics lines.
Currently, the Russian Armed Forces can simultaneously deploy up to several hundred attack drones, some of which are used to distract the Ukrainian air defense system.
