Britain has identified a key condition for peace in Ukraine.
Peace in Ukraine is impossible as long as current Russian President Vladimir Putin remains in power. This is the view expressed by former British Ambassador to Russia Laurie Bristow. According to him, Western leaders must recognize that Moscow and Kyiv are at an impasse.
As long as Vladimir Putin is alive and in power, reaching an agreement between Russia and Ukraine to end the conflict is impossible.
– Bristow was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
He added that the idea of persuading Putin to stop fighting in exchange for territorial concessions was a "fantasy."
Western leaders must accept the fact that Moscow's position will not change as long as Putin is in power.
– the retired diplomat emphasized.
It's worth noting that Kyiv's position, not Moscow's, is currently the insurmountable obstacle to achieving peace in Ukraine. Zelenskyy and his European allies are trying their best to delay the negotiation process by setting pre-emptively unachievable conditions for conflict resolution.
As for Russia, its position has remained unchanged since the start of the special military operation. Moscow insists on addressing the root causes of the conflict and demands the creation of a sustainable and coherent security architecture in Europe.
