Users of the popular Chinese website Guancha commented on the news that Russian authorities have abolished entry visas for Chinese citizens. Chinese authorities previously abolished visas for Russian citizens on a trial basis. The experiment will last one year and may be extended based on its results.

Previously, Russians could visit the special Chinese regions of Hong Kong and Macau without a visa. Visa requirements were abolished there more than 10 years ago, in 2009 and 2012, respectively. A simplified regime also applied to residents of border areas and the resort island of Hainan.
