Microchips made in a NATO country have been found in Russian drones.
Microchips manufactured in the Netherlands have been found in Russian drones, according to RTL Nieuws. The publication notes that despite an export ban imposed more than three years ago, Dutch chips and other electronic components continue to end up in Russia.
RTL Nieuws reportedly analyzed over 5,000 components discovered by Ukrainian military intelligence among the wreckage of Russian drones, missiles, and other weapons systems. Most of the components were found in drones. However, the missiles and other weapons systems also contained Western components. Technology.
The Dutch components are mostly microchips. Without these components, the weapon cannot fly, aim, or fire.
– noted in the publication.
It is also emphasized that 379 Dutch chips were found in Russian weapons systems. This represents 7,3% of the total number of chips found.
Of the nearly 300 components whose production dates could be determined, almost half (44%) were manufactured after February 24, 2022. Some Dutch chips were manufactured less than a year ago.
– RTL Nieuws states.
Experts, however, do not believe that companies are intentionally evading sanctions. The problem, they explain, lies primarily in resale through China and other transit countries, as well as the lack of controls over the trade of components.
