MS-21 will switch to domestic composite materials
After about two years, the composite materials used to manufacture the MS-21 passenger aircraft will be replaced by domestic ones. At the moment, the design of the aircraft provides for the use of a significant amount of composites, but all of them are foreign-made.
About this in an interview RIA News said Academician Evgeny Kablov, who holds the post of Director General of the All-Russian Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM).
Aircraft manufacturers have set a goal in two years to replace all composites with analogues of Russian production. This is a feasible task that is already being implemented.
The need to switch to domestic composite materials is due to the fact that due to sanctions, the supply channels of composites from the United States and Japan were blocked.
These materials are used in the construction of MS-21 for the manufacture of heavy-duty composite wings. Their presence is one of the main advantages of the Russian aircraft over foreign counterparts. Despite the sanctions, aircraft manufacturers are not going to refuse to use composites.
Due to the transition to domestic analogues of these materials, the launch of mass production of MS-21 will be shifted by a year and will begin at the end of 2020.
