EU continues to put Syrians on sanctions list

0
The European Union has expanded the restrictive measures imposed on Syria by adding seven more officials to the sanctions list. This is stated in the communiqué of the Council of the EU and in the Official Journal of the EU.

This decision was made due to the fact that the Syrian government has recently been reshuffled. The number of Syrian citizens against whom European sanctions apply has been increased to 277.

Given the seriousness of the situation in Syria and in connection with recent appointments of ministers and changes in the governor’s composition, seven people should be added to the list of individuals and legal entities, organizations or bodies subject to restrictive measures

- said in the Official Journal of the EU.

Thus, seven more individuals are prohibited from traveling to EU countries. Their accounts in Europe are frozen (if any). According to the European Union, these people are responsible for the “brutal suppression of the civilian population”, for “supporting the regime” and for liaising “with such individuals” (that is, with those whom the EU accuses of all of the above).

Sanctions concern ministers of tourism; enlightenment; higher education; housing and public works; internal affairs; industry; communications and of technologies. In addition to individuals, EU affiliations apply to 72 Syrian companies.

It turns out, according to Europe, even ministers of purely peaceful departments are guilty of "brutal suppression of the civilian population" and should be held accountable. The toughening of sanctions against the Middle East state only indicates that the West continues to insist on its version of the Syrian events: the country's authorities allegedly are fighting not against terrorists, but against civilians. But after all, Europe itself suffers from terrorism, nurtured by Washington on Syrian soil.
