President of Belarus is ready to find an alternative to Russian oil

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko during a press conference “Big Talk with the President” said that his country is able to withstand the consequences of the Russian tax maneuver in the oil industry.

According to him, Minsk will find an opportunity to buy oil, if necessary, from other countries, and the whole question is only in its cost.

We will survive this tax maneuver. We will buy oil on the market, there is enough oil on it, the question is price

- said the president of Belarus.

According to him, Minsk lost $ 3,4 billion from this measure, introduced by Russia, starting in 2015.

The decision on a tax maneuver in the Russian oil and gas industry was made at the end of 2014 and has been in force since 2015. Its essence lies in the phased reduction of export duties on oil and in the increase in tax rates on mineral extraction. Using these measures, the Russian authorities set a goal to reduce the dependence of the budget on export duties.

The growth of the mineral extraction tax leads to an increase in the cost of oil for Belarus. If earlier Minsk bought Russian “black gold” at a reduced price, then already this year the price of a ton of oil can rise to $ 416. And this is about 75% of the global price.

Earlier, in early January of this year, Lukashenko already spoke about the possibility of receiving oil from other countries through the ports of the Baltic states. This idea can be realized after the completion of the modernization of two oil refineries in Belarus. Then the oil refining depth will be 90-92%, as in European enterprises.

About $ 400 million this year will cost us a tax maneuver. With GDP exceeding $ 50 billion, we will somehow survive it, we will survive

- noted the Belarusian leader.
