The Pentagon threw a tantrum

3
US Under Secretary of Defense Political Affairs John Rood speaks at a Senate Armed Services committee hearing. The red thread of his speech was the theme of the threat to Washington and its allies from Russia and China.

According to the deputy head of the Pentagon, this threat is constantly growing, and the United States is constantly faced with "an increasingly difficult security situation." He accused Moscow and Beijing of striving to "redraw the world order", as well as to "change the established territorial borders."

He believes that the US army remains the strongest in the world, but is forced to admit that other states are strengthening their defenses and modernizing their armed forces. He recalled the recent speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Federal Assembly, during which a presentation of the capabilities of new Russian weapons was demonstrated.

And finally, Rood said that "long-term rivalry with revisionist powers such as Russia and China" requires an increase in US arms spending. In addition, he noted, it is necessary to confront not only these two states, but also “rogue countries,” such as Iran and the DPRK.

Well, in order to completely frighten the parliamentarians and eliminate any objections to the issue of financing the army, he predicted:

The scale of threats in the future will only increase

The rhetoric about the "Russian threat" is heard by the US military and politicians a long time ago. So, earlier the commander-in-chief of NATO forces in Europe, American General Curtis Scaparotti, argued that it was necessary to contain Russia and prevent its "negative influence on the European allies and partners of the United States."

And the chairman of the strategic command of the U.S. armed forces, John Heiten, also speaking at a hearing on the Committee on the Armed Forces, admitted that Washington has no means that could protect against hypersonic weapons (which Vladimir Putin spoke about in his famous speech to parliament).

It is noteworthy that the deputy head of the Pentagon puts forward against Russia and China such accusations that could safely be brought forward against his own country. Recently, processes such as “redrawing the world order” and “changing territorial borders” have been made either directly by Washington or its allies. As soon as Russia (and sometimes China) began to resist these processes and undermine US hegemony, they immediately launched, one after another, powerful informational and political attacks against these countries.

Well, in order for the attacks to remain only informational and political, it is just necessary to strengthen Russia's defense capabilities. And the latest weapons come in very handy. So let them be afraid of the “Russian threat”, but it is advisable that they also be afraid of the “Chinese threat”. Nowadays, the time of “world hegemons” is approaching its natural end.
