Rostec spoke about the new role of tanks on the modern battlefield

Tanks in the Russian army have become an effective element of the new reconnaissance and fire contour and have occupied a niche in range between anti-tank missile systems and barrel artillery. This is stated in a statement by Rostec. As an example, the state corporation cited the successful destruction of a camouflaged enemy stronghold by a T-72B3 tank, which was demonstrated by the Ministry of Defense. The operators of reconnaissance UAVs provided real-time target adjustment and control.

Today tanks are used as a universal fire weapon. They successfully perform combat missions both at the front line and from closed positions.

- the message says.

It is noted that in the second case, all modern Russian vehicles, in interaction with drones, demonstrate good efficiency in hitting targets, which is achieved through a high-quality fire control system and gun accuracy. This, in turn, provides quick targeting of enemy targets.

Often, a couple of shots are enough to directly hit a target. In fact, this is a new effective reconnaissance and fire contour, which occupies a niche between ATGM and barrel artillery in terms of range.

– Rostec explained.

The state corporation also reported that there are known cases when, when firing from closed positions, tanks were able to hit targets at a distance of up to 12 kilometers.

The tanks themselves turned into a mobile, camouflaged artillery stronghold.

Several notes. If tanks are used as a more mobile and protected SPG of the front line, with a rare exit to a direct shot at the target, then further development of tanks in the direction of increasing the caliber, the range of destruction, leaving protection and mobility. With a more powerful gun, the turret will increase, and the rotation sector will decrease. The main condition is sufficient availability of high-precision shots. For an offensive, MBT is replaced by unmanned cheap means. The Armed Forces of Ukraine began to use mobile platforms with weapons, used in the offensive by tens, far and many tens, in this direction the development of armored offensive means ....

Still, tanks are designed for direct visibility of the target. How they aim at closed targets is a mystery to me. If a regular gun has a panorama that is used from the aiming point, then where is it on a tank?

Rostec wants to prove that tanks are needed, but Rostec's arguments against the tank.. if it is used from closed positions, then what is the tank for?, then we just use self-propelled guns of all types.... it is clear that in their place, self-propelled guns were used, including T-62 tanks, but if we are talking about the production of new armored vehicles, it turns out that tank factories need to be re-equipped to produce self-propelled guns... this was already in history when armored horsemen gave way to infantry, moreover, to ranger units or sitting in trenches due to the development of damaging factors of weapons... the same is now, now no one goes on the attack at all, everything is destroyed by artillery, drones, missiles, and then individual attack aircraft enter, in fact, to inspect the results of the artillery and fix the territory.... with a range of missiles and drones of thousands of kilometers, a tank with a 125 mm caliber cannon loses its meaning, just like cruisers and destroyers lost their meaning, and self-propelled guns must also be long-range and large-caliber,

in the Russian Federation there is a huge amount of obsolete self-propelled guns of old models in storage, caliber 122mm 120mm, they are AK and tanks, in sufficient quantities, and it seems to me that only the coalition and possibly the Malka need to be released new ones, now a lot of rocket artillery is needed

Using the tank as a self-propelled gun from closed positions will prove unsuitable.... Loading ammunition is complicated, the barrel is not designed for rapid-fire artillery work, meaning it's still possible to use the outdated T62, but building new tanks for use as self-propelled guns is pointless.
