1
The head of the Russian state, Vladimir Putin, signed a decree according to which the Ministry for the Development of the Far East received a new name - the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic.

Thus, the ministry is entrusted with several additional functions, in particular, as stated in the decree, it will have to deal with the development of state policy and legal regulation in the field of development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. Over the next months, the Russian government will need to clarify the responsibilities of the renamed ministry. If necessary, it will be reorganized.

In January of this year, the Russian president supported the initiative of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who proposed the post of First Deputy Minister for Development of the Far East, who would be responsible for the Arctic zone. The idea to rename the Minvostokrazvitiya also belonged to the Prime Minister.

Another idea that was discussed in the government was to create a special ministry for the development of the Arctic. However, Medvedev did not support her.

The head of government has appointed Alexander Krutikov, deputy head of the Ministry for the Development of the Arctic, to be responsible for the development of the Arctic.
