In the Pacific Ocean between the United States and Japan, a whole garbage continent has grown. It accumulated several hundred million tons of waste. How to get rid of them, scientists do not know.

Yesterday, March 22, American scientists published research results in the journal Scientific Reports that could shock not only specialists. The large garbage spot, the existence of which has been known since the 80s of the last century, is actually substantially larger in size.

It spreads over an area of 1,6 million square kilometers and contains at least 352 million tons of garbage. The mass was calculated using aerial photography. But the photographs show garbage floating on the surface. How deep it goes into the water is unknown.

Most of it is plastic. But glass bottles, wooden boards, logs, resin and other materials are also visible.

Garbage in this part of the ocean pulls currents. Moreover, due to the water cycle, he is not leaving anywhere, continuing to accumulate at a tremendous pace - several million tons per year.

Environmentalists believe that if this continues further, the garbage continent will kill all living things around for thousands of kilometers and eventually reach a person. But how to dispose of waste, scientists do not yet know.
