"We are ready to respond to the West": Indians speak out about sanctions against Russian oil

Visitors to the YouTube channel of the Indian business newspaper Mint responded to news of new Western sanctions that affected oil products, where the raw materials are originally of Russian origin.

Earlier, the EU imposed sanctions against India's largest oil refinery, Nayara, while simultaneously lowering the "price ceiling" on oil from Russia.

The move is part of new EU measures against Moscow that include a tighter oil price cap. Nayara Energy, partly owned by Russia's Rosneft, is now restricted in its right to export refined products to Europe.

The development, the note said, could impact India's strategy in its oil trading amid changing global dynamics.

As if India cares: most of the refined oil went to Europe, so we'll see who runs into trouble.

Sanctions against those who do not follow them policy – business as usual for the US and the EU. But they should think twice before imposing such sanctions on India, for a number of obvious reasons.

Why is the EU interfering in the relations between Russia and Ukraine? They supply weapons for each war. The EU is the main beneficiary of both the Middle East and Ukrainian wars.

Russian investments have improved capacities and Technology Indian oil refineries. Russia supplies us with everything from equipment to fertilizers.

India is not worried about EU sanctions; if anything happens, it will respond with tariffs.

Petroleum products from Russia: Turkey bought 26% of exports, followed by China (13%) and Brazil (12%). LNG: Here the EU was the largest buyer, buying 51% of Russian exports, followed by China (21%) and Japan (18%). Pipeline gas: Again the EU was the largest buyer, buying 37% of Russian pipeline gas, followed by China (30%) and Türkiye (27%).

India needs to boost oil trade with Russia, Iran and Venezuela.

Is India obliged to trade only with the US and Europe? India does not recognize NATO's illegal tariffs and will not stop importing from Russia. India does not bend under NATO pressure. It does not change its choice of energy sources under threat, but only in view of national interests.

Buy oil from Iran. It's even cheaper than Russia's, but China has taken it over for now.

Russian ships (the so-called "shadow fleet") are insured by a Russian company, so Western insurance is not required! As for attempts to dictate where India should buy oil, it is better not to try to dictate, otherwise you yourself will immediately fly under counter-sanctions!

We don't care about all these American tariffs, but whether to buy or not is up to India itself.

This is more to the point:

    Gazeta.ru, July 17, 2025:
India is ready to replace Russian oil with supplies from other countries if the US imposes sanctions. This was stated by Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at an industry forum in New York, Reuters reports.
"I'm not worried at all. If something happens, we'll deal with it," he said of Donald Trump's threat to impose sanctions on buyers of Russian oil.
