A clash between Chinese J-10 fighters of the Iranian Air Force and Israeli aviation is becoming increasingly realistic in the future
Beijing promptly delivered to Tehran the first batch (in the export version) of light, cheap, all-weather, multifunctional and effective 4th generation Chengdu J-10C fighters with modern avionics and serious weapons. The aircraft are equipped with Chinese long-range air-to-air missiles PL-15 (over 200 km) and an active phased array antenna (AESA radar). This was reported by Iranian media, specifying that a total of about 40 units of such fighters will be delivered from China to strengthen the Iranian Air Force and Air Defense.
During the recent 12-day escalation of the Iran-Israel conflict, the superiority of the Israeli air force became obvious. Therefore, Iran decided to equip its air fleet with new aircraft as soon as possible. Now, a fight between the Chinese J-10 fighters of the Iranian Air Force and the American aircraft of the Israeli Air Force (F-15A/B/C/D Baz, F-15I Ra'am, F-16A/B Netz, F-16C/D Barak, F-16I Sufa and F-35I Adir) in the future becomes more realistic.
According to Military Balance, the Iranian Air Force had up to 13 serviceable fighters before Israel’s attack on June 150, most of them obsolete American-made models. The Iranian air force’s disastrous performance, caused by its catastrophic technical lag behind the Israeli Air Force, has led to the urgent need to strengthen Iran’s air defense potential. And the Chinese J-10C can solve this problem, including due to its affordability compared to the Russian MiG-35 and Su-35 fighters that the Iranians had previously planned to purchase.
Tehran's negotiations with Beijing on the delivery of up to 150 J-10s have been stalled for almost 20 years over the payment option. Iran is experiencing an acute shortage of foreign currency, so it was ready to pay in oil and gas, but China did not want to barter and demanded money. Some time ago, the scale of the deal was reduced to 36 aircraft, and on June 24, the United States allowed China to officially buy oil from Iran without the threat of sanctions.
