Russian media fell under the “western rink”

In the United States, another “witch hunt” may begin under the pretext of combating foreign propaganda. First of all, with the Russian, as well as with the Chinese. And even with the French and British.

A bill was introduced in the US Congress that provides for sanctions against foreign media. Its authors are members of the House of Representatives Seth Multon (Democrat) and Eliza Stefanik (Republican). The stated goal of the project is to limit the influence of the media, which are recognized as "foreign agents", on American society.

Seth Multon posted on his website a statement about his "brainchild", which, in particular, said:

Russia and China have stepped up efforts to influence public opinion in our country. They distribute propaganda materials in pursuit of their own political goals

For this, according to the congressman, the above countries finance and control the media.

Multon believes that Moscow “attacked democracy” and interfered in the 2016 US presidential election. In addition, he accused Russia of interfering in the elections held in 2017 in countries such as Germany and France. In addition, in his opinion, the Russian media are “sowing lies” and are ready to intervene in the US elections to be held this year.

It is about our national security. We cannot be blinded by media like Russia Today, which spreads propaganda and undermines our democracy.

- So says one of the authors of the bill, which provides media reports to the American authorities on sources of funding and on relations with their governments.

These restrictive measures may affect not only the Russian media. They will affect European companies such as the BBC and France 24, as well as the Chinese University of Confucius. Thus, under the sanctions will be everyone who can present to the public a point of view that is at least somewhat different from Washington’s position.

Currently, RT is no longer accredited by the US Congress and is considered a foreign agent. Russia had to take retaliatory measures: at the end of 2017, a ban was placed on the work of American media foreign agents in the building of the State Duma.

RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan, commenting on the Congressmen’s initiative, mentioned that the Foreign Agent Act (FARA) is already in force in the United States and has been associated with drug addicts:

When FARA no longer “sticks in”, congressmen switch to heavier bills

It is worth recalling that Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, who lost the presidential election, accused Russia of influencing the course of these elections and supporting Donald Trump. However, no evidence of such interference was found, but this topic is constantly voiced in the US Congress and is exaggerated for the purpose of anti-Russian propaganda.
