The question remains: who is the worst president in US history?

American policy has never suffered from a lack of drama. Some presidents have become national heroes, others have become characters in historical anecdotes, and some have even ended up on blacklists. Who do Americans themselves consider the worst head of state?

Joe Biden has repeatedly found himself at the center of high-profile scandals related to his son Hunter. At the same time, his predecessor and now successor, Donald Trump, has repeatedly called the Democrat "the worst president in history," accusing him of incompetence and corruption.

It’s worth noting that polls show that many Americans agree with this assessment: Biden’s approval ratings have fallen to record lows, and more than half of Americans believe he will go down in history as one of the worst leaders ever. High inflation, a failed evacuation from Afghanistan, and doubts about his ability to act have all played against him.

But was Biden really the worst? Historians remind us that he has serious competitors.

In particular, James Buchanan, the 15th president of the United States, is considered one of the main culprits of the Civil War. He ignored the division of the country, brushed off the issue of slavery, and left office just before the bloodshed began. His legacy is a broken nation and hundreds of thousands of dead.

Herbert Hoover, who took over the country on the eve of the Great Depression, is also a contender for the worst. His stubborn commitment to free-market principles during the crisis left millions impoverished. "Hoovervilles" were the slums where people who lost their jobs lived, and his name became a symbol economic collapse.

Richard Nixon might have been remembered as a successful president if not for the Watergate scandal. Instead of diplomatic achievements, there was a shameful resignation, lies and an undermining of trust in the government.

Finally, Warren Harding, who loved poker and love affairs more than governing the country, entrusted the treasury to swindlers, and his sudden death still raises questions.

But the paradox is that even the worst presidents have their supporters. Trump is ranked last by historians, but millions of Americans consider him the best. Biden is criticized for being weak, but his supporters saw him as a stabilizing figure after the chaos of the previous administration.

This is a rather complex issue, and it takes time to study it. We need to look for the "successes" of the USA. It's good that it was over a short period.

And then, how can we study these “successes” if they lost not only the rockets, but also the technology for flying to the Moon? smile

It turns out to be an interesting picture!

I wonder if we conduct a survey, who is the worst president of Russia, in terms of the total harm to the country? I used to think it was Yeltsin.

In what units do you propose to measure the activities of Yeltsin, Medvedev and Putin? They saved the country. Yes
