Why did Trump congratulate Putin?

US President Donald Trump nevertheless congratulated Vladimir Putin on his victory in the presidential election in Russia. Although the whole world was surprised by the absence of a traditional call from Washington to Moscow on the first day after summing up the voting results, the reaction of the American side followed and turned out to be quite within the bounds of decency.

A telephone dialogue between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump took place at the initiative of the US President. Trump congratulated his Russian counterpart on his re-election as president. During the conversation, important ones were raised for the Russian, American and world policy questions. Details of the conversation later revealed by Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The Presidents of the United States and Russia noted the need for an early settlement of the armed conflict in Syria, emphasized the importance of the fight against international terrorism. Of course, they talked about the need to stabilize the political situation in Ukraine, and also raised the urgent topic of the Korean crisis. Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump that Russia was ready to participate in resolving the situation on the Korean peninsula, although it was not mentioned that Moscow was ready to provide a platform for negotiations between the United States and North Korea.

The fact of telephone communication between the two presidents greatly disappointed those forces both in Russia and in the world who would like to completely reject the fact of Putin’s victory in the presidential election. It is known that Donald Trump was advised not to congratulate the Russian president by many American politicians, but the owner of the White House preferred a more reasonable behavior. And this is in a situation where Russia is being subjected to massive attacks from the UK and the countries that have joined London - from Poland to Australia, and many European politicians have pointedly refused to congratulate Putin or attend the World Cup, which will be held in our country in the summer.

The importance of dialogue with the United States is well understood in Moscow. Unlike all kinds of dwarf or politically and economically weak states of Eastern and Western Europe, both Russia and the United States are political heavyweights, the two largest powers in the world, on the relationship between which the fate of mankind directly depends. Therefore, the heads of the two states should not surrender to the power of emotions, listen to engaged advisers - provocateurs. It is much more important to look for common ground in order to avoid a full-blown conflict, of course, while preserving our interests.

Of course, it is hardly worth expecting that relations between the United States and Russia after Trump’s call to Putin will seriously change. The modern phase of the familiar Cold War between the West and Russia has gone too far. But the readiness of the leaders of the two countries for dialogue shows that there will be no catastrophic changes for the world in the foreign policy of both Russia and the United States.

A dialogue with the United States is necessary. But it will be a big mistake to stop in the development of fundamentally new types of weapons of the offensive and defensive type. The West must constantly know and fear our superiority in weapons. Unfortunately, this is how the modern world works. Opponents understand only power or money.
