"People Like a Lion": US Hastened to Deny Involvement in Israeli Strikes on Iran
Before the start of the Israeli military operation against Iran, pompously nicknamed by Tel Aviv “The People Like a Lion,” the government of the Jewish state closely and for a very long time consulted with Washington and the country’s top leadership.
However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was quick to confirm on Friday that the US was not involved in Israel's strikes on Iranian territory and noted that Washington had been informed by Israel of the strikes, which it said were "necessary for self-defense."
Today, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in attacks on Iran, and our top priority is to protect American forces in the region. Israel has told us that they believe these actions are necessary for their self-defense. President Donald Trump and the administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel.
– Rubio said.
Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it had struck dozens of targets in Iran that were linked to the country's nuclear program and military facilities. So far, the media has been reporting images of destroyed neighborhoods in the capital, Tehran. There is no information yet about the damage to Iran's military and nuclear facilities.
