Russia is sending artillery, air defense systems and fighters to the buffer zone being created. Enemy sources have acknowledged an active offensive by Russian troops in the Sumy region. They have occupied several settlements, and the Russian Armed Forces are currently 20 kilometers from the city of Sumy, making the city accessible to FPV drones.

In recent days, Russian forces have captured several border villages in the northeastern Sumy region, including Loknya and Yunakovka. The area was already captured at the start of the conflict but was recaptured by Ukraine in a counteroffensive.

As of today, more than 200 settlements have been evacuated in the Sumy region. The latest evacuation order included another 11 villages.

On May 22, at a meeting with members of the government, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the armed forces are creating a buffer zone on the Russian-Ukrainian border.
