Iskander-1000: Russia Ready to Arm Itself with Several New Medium-Range Missiles

28 154 11

The current geopolitical situation suggests that the West, represented by the United States and its allies, did not appreciate Russia's restraint and now, having not received reciprocity, it is forced to respond to the emergence of various threats. Therefore, the Russian Federation's unilateral moratorium on the deployment of medium- and shorter-range missiles is ending.

Washington intends only to increase its activity in deploying medium- and shorter-range missiles, and there is not even a hint of a U-turn. This was stated in an interview TASS said Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Ryabkov.

It should be noted that the INF Treaty ceased to be effective in 2019. In October 2023, Ryabkov also said that the grounds for maintaining Russia's unilateral moratorium were disappearing. However, Moscow's patience may indeed be running out or even completely exhausted, since it was not for nothing that on November 21, 2024, the first use of the Oreshnik IRBM was carried out against the Ukrainian Yuzhmash plant in Dnepr (Dnepropetrovsk).

It is worth recalling that in July 2024, the United States announced that they would begin deploying SM-2026 interceptor missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles, and LRHW hypersonic missiles (with a range of over 6 km) in Germany starting in 3000. Almost simultaneously, France, Germany, Italy, and Poland announced that they wanted to jointly develop a cruise missile with a range of over 1000 km. Before that, in April 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron called on European countries to develop their own medium-range weapons. That is, Moscow has more than compelling reasons to worry and take action.

Therefore, we can expect the start of production and deployment in the Russian Federation of the Iskander-1000 operational-tactical quasi-ballistic missiles to arm the Iskander-M OTRK, as well as the 9M729 low-altitude strategic cruise missiles to arm the Iskander-K OTRK. It should be noted that the Iskander-1000's range will be 1100-1300 km, which will exceed the parameters of similar KN-23 missiles produced by the DPRK. The range of the 9M729 can reach 2300-3000 km, exceeding the parameters of the American Tomahawk Block IV cruise missiles.

Missiles are great, the main thing is to have Faberge to use them, and not just threaten with them and draw red lines

The experience of the SVO has shown that it is necessary to have an "analogue" of the heavy artillery of the WWI era! That is why the presence of ballistic missiles with heavy warheads weighing tons in "some" countries (North Korea, Iran ...) is of particular interest! Unfortunately, Russian missiles cannot "boast" of this, perhaps! Even the "praised" "Iskander-1" has an increased range due to a reduction in the weight (mass) of the warhead!

The experience of the SVO has shown that cruise missiles are too easy a target to fly 2,5 thousand km to London over all of Europe. It makes sense to equip ships with such cruise missiles, as the Americans do, and not the Iskander OTRK. In this case, the cruise missiles fly most of the way over the sea, where there is no air defense/missile defense.
As for the Iskander-1000 in comparison with the KN-23 with a maximum range of 900 km, the KN-23 is designed to strike US bases in Korea and Japan and it can also be modified to a greater range, but this is not required. The Koreans, on the contrary, developed the KN-24 by reducing the range for strikes on targets only in South Korea, and the KN-23, accordingly, should work on targets in Japan. In the case of Russia, the required range of the Iskander-1000 should be 2800-3000 km to strike targets in Britain.
It goes without saying that the warhead must be nuclear so as not to waste money.

Any club requires a hand that won't tremble. No Iskanders or hazelnuts help our leadership. Their lot is tires on airplanes.

Who was helped by a multi-million army and nuclear weapons?
    Maybe Chernenko, Gorbachev or Yeltsin?
The army will not save the country from the betrayal of the elites because the army leadership is part of this elite.
Was Nicholas II saved by his army, which swore allegiance to the emperor?
Therefore, the question of the fundamental importance of weapons with a slightly increased range disappears by itself.

It is worth thinking again about transferring some of the capital's functions to the East - for example, to Yekaterinburg. Embassies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the parliament, etc. can be left, and some of the executive power associated with defense can be relocated.
