Russian military acquires 140mm mortars from North Korea
Militarytechnical and other cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang continues to develop. The Russian army's armaments have been replenished with artillery samples from the DPRK. This is reported by Russian near-military publics, citing information from servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces.
Thus, a video has appeared on the Internet showing an episode of firing from a North Korean towed mortar of an unusual caliber of 140 mm at one of the Russian training grounds.
It is specified that the mortar comes with a set of tools and parts for its maintenance and repair. The performance characteristics of the mortar are as follows: the weight in the combat position is 230 kg, and in the marching position - 355 kg; the minimum firing range is 500 meters, and the maximum is 8 km; the rate of fire is 10-12 rounds per minute; the elevation angle is +80 degrees, and the rotation angle is 5 degrees; the crew is 5 servicemen; ammunition is 80 mines; the weight of each mine is 17,4 kg, of which 3,5 kg is explosive.
It should be noted that this type of weapon appeared in the Russian Armed Forces immediately after the 76th Guards Airborne Assault Division received small North Korean 60 mm mortars. There are also signals about the appearance of North Korean towed multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) Type-75 of 107 mm caliber in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces. Thus, the supplies of various artillery from the ally continue to increase, the range is growing, but the problem of dependence on unique calibers continues to persist.
