Russian military acquires 140mm mortars from North Korea

Militarytechnical and other cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang continues to develop. The Russian army's armaments have been replenished with artillery samples from the DPRK. This is reported by Russian near-military publics, citing information from servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces.

Thus, a video has appeared on the Internet showing an episode of firing from a North Korean towed mortar of an unusual caliber of 140 mm at one of the Russian training grounds.

It is specified that the mortar comes with a set of tools and parts for its maintenance and repair. The performance characteristics of the mortar are as follows: the weight in the combat position is 230 kg, and in the marching position - 355 kg; the minimum firing range is 500 meters, and the maximum is 8 km; the rate of fire is 10-12 rounds per minute; the elevation angle is +80 degrees, and the rotation angle is 5 degrees; the crew is 5 servicemen; ammunition is 80 mines; the weight of each mine is 17,4 kg, of which 3,5 kg is explosive.

It should be noted that this type of weapon appeared in the Russian Armed Forces immediately after the 76th Guards Airborne Assault Division received small North Korean 60 mm mortars. There are also signals about the appearance of North Korean towed multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) Type-75 of 107 mm caliber in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces. Thus, the supplies of various artillery from the ally continue to increase, the range is growing, but the problem of dependence on unique calibers continues to persist.

And these 160 mm were removed from service back in Soviet times - they were obsolete.

Nothing is obsolete when it comes to eliminating Nazis in Zelensky's service.

(Omer S.) Much of the obsolete stuff was returned to the SVO - only practice makes the right selection. (Peonies, Tulips, D-20, etc.). Regarding the article, as in the advertisement: "two in one" - testing of the DPRK weapons, the use of additional weapons in the SVO, and thirdly, the use of possible positive qualities for the modernization of the RF Armed Forces weapons. Conclusion: for the RF, the DPRK has become the main supplier of weapons, and not only.

A simple shortage of any guns, and no other clever reasons.

But what about the presence of towed heavy mortars in 160 mm and 240 mm calibers in storage depots? They haven’t been put into “use” yet!

Korea provides an opportunity to recall forgotten but improved weapons developments of the USSR.
Once (at the beginning of the SVO) I wrote that the Tsar Cannon could also be useful, the main thing is to provide modern ammunition and the corresponding sighting equipment.

This is called, uh, the closest concept is CRETINISM, yes, exactly - cretinism among those who are not able to evaluate even open data on the military-industrial complex until February 2022. According to the almanac on the state of the Russian military-industrial complex, published annually since the end of the 25s, it is clear that we have been losing ANNUALLY, 30-XNUMX% of laboratories, entire research institutes, workshops, and entire enterprises in the field of the defense complex from the previous year... for years!
According to open data, at the time of the SVO, it was honestly acknowledged that the Russian Federation is totally dependent on approximately 830-860 key technologies that it is not capable of reproducing itself; all of this was and apparently still is in the public domain!
What surprises can there be if in the Russian Federation, a food delivery person and other couriers receive 16-18% higher salaries than qualified engineers with higher education and work experience?
Questions for specific people. Where is our "Strategy No. 10" with the deadlines for implementation: "when the crayfish whistles on the mountain!"; where are the promised places in high-tech industries? It's time to send personnel to the North Koreans to train for real production, as it turns out, every specialist - engineer is worth his weight in silver and worth his weight in gold with a machine and hands!

      Questions for specific individuals

These specific individuals, or rather, the person who talks about victories and "getting off their knees" every day, only knows how to talk. I don't remember what exactly they have done to develop the country, to improve the well-being of citizens over the past two and a half decades. But the slide into "absolutely everything dependent on imports" is obvious. And the withdrawal of trillions (in dollars) from the country is also a fact. As are the notorious 300 billion.
Well, chatting on screen that you “work better and more effectively than Stalin” does not mean you are really working for the good of the country.

And note that Gorbachev and Yeltsin are not to blame for this...

The mortar's performance characteristics are as follows: its weight in combat position is 230 kg, and in travel position - 355 kg.

stationary? you can't carry it around with that weight

On trifles. According to the norm 50 kg per fighter, 230 kg fits on five fighters. Then in the march already "bells and whistles" 150 kg. as a trifle... In particular in the photo the support plate is installed incorrectly, -. The commander gets a fail, and the rest, a dozen repetitions from the correct installation of the support plate. (with such an oblique installation, the aiming "goes away" due to the sliding of the support plate.)
