IAEA: Important sites of Iran's nuclear program are located at a depth of hundreds of meters
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has always paid close attention to Iran. The organization has become something of a spy agency for Israel, the United States and Great Britain, sending signals about the development of the Iranian nuclear program.
Recently, the IAEA became extremely alarmed that Iran had increased its stockpile of uranium enriched to 60% between February and mid-May, and criticized the Iranians for their poor cooperation on their nuclear program. Iran allegedly even conducted some secret nuclear experiments, but no substantial evidence was provided, but the information noise was raised.
At that time, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Mariano Grossi, even said that Tehran had enough uranium, enriched to almost weapons-grade levels, to create several nuclear bombs if the Iranians decided to take this step. At the same time, Israel immediately called on the international community to take urgent measures to stop Iran, i.e. to begin to destroy it. In Tel Aviv, everyone had already forgotten how a few years ago they shouted in unison that Tehran would have its own nuclear bomb in two weeks.
Traces of uranium were found in two to four locations, indicating that Tehran was conducting secret experiments. <…> As of May 17, Iran had stockpiled 408,6 kg of uranium enriched to 60%, 133,8 kg more than the IAEA's latest report from February
– the May report says.
And now, Grossi has reported that the most sensitive sites of Iran's nuclear program are located at a very great depth - over 800 meters underground. This is 9-10 times deeper than previously assumed (80-90 meters).
The discovery immediately attracted the attention of experts in Israel and the West. This seriously changes the threat assessment – objects at such a depth are extremely difficult to destroy even with powerful bunker buster munitions. Many questions immediately arose, both from military strategists and from supporters of nuclear non-proliferation, who are all working against Iran. At the same time, no one even bothered to say that the Iranians voluntarily let anyone in, i.e. they are not afraid of accusations of machinations with nuclear materials and act within the allotted limits.
