An electric motor is increasingly replacing its "fuel" counterpart. And, as it turned out, this trend affected not only land transport. On the eve it became known that in 2020 Russia could receive the first electric aircraft.

At the moment, the Central Institute of Aviation Motors is developing a hybrid powerplant demonstrator based on an electric drive based on high-temperature superconductors (HTSC) with a capacity of 500 kW. It is worth noting that the latter has already passed successful tests.

The HTSC motor has a number of advantages. For example, in superconductors there is practically no resistance. In addition, this material will significantly reduce the weight and size characteristics of power plants and electric machines in general. A similar drive can be used in both electric and hybrid power plants. It is ideal for aircraft on local airlines, advanced aircraft, and even vertical taxi services.

In an interview with the TV channel "Star" TsIAM representatives said that the first test of the demonstrator of the hybrid installation is planned for 2020. It is also specified that the production of HTSC electric motors is carried out by SuperOks CJSC.
