US no longer wants Assad to leave

Since the spring of 2011, the slogan “Assad must leave” has become fundamental in Washington in relation to Damascus. And so, at the 55th Munich Security Conference (February 15-17, 2019), it turned out that this slogan was not completely correctly understood, or rather, understood too literally.

It turns out that Washington all this time did not call for the departure of the legitimate Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, but for serious changes in the behavior of official Damascus (though without going into details, which means "serious changes"). This was stated by US Special Representative for Syria James Jeffrey.

No, we are calling for major changes in the behavior of the regime

- Jeffrey answered the question whether the United States is still calling for Assad to leave.

At the same time, Jeffrey, without even blinking an eye, with the inherent "exclusivity" and arrogance, said that it was the actions of official Damascus that were the main reason why "half of the country's population" voted "to leave." That is, not a horde of terrorists brought by the United States and its allies from around the world to this unfortunate country, not “democratic” bombing, shelling and chemical attacks, but Damascus itself is to blame.

It should be recalled that an attempt to overthrow the current regime in Syria began in the spring of 2011. By September 2015, the position of official Damascus had become critical, the superiority of terrorist groups became apparent.

September 30, 2015, Russia begins a military operation in Syria. For several years, simultaneously with the defeat of the “barmaley” groups, a new Syrian army is being created. In 2016, Turkey sends troops to the north of Syria west of the Euphrates River, creating a buffer zone where “moderate” terrorists are hiding.

The war on the land of Syria is not over yet, but Assad’s military advantage and initiative is now in his hands, he, with the help of Russia, managed to take control of most of the country. And the US Special Representative for Syria, James Jeffrey, officially stated this.
