Russia refuses to launch military satellites from Baikonur
Russia is gradually reducing its dependence on foreign states in various fields. The launches of military satellites from the territory of Kazakhstan were no exception.
According to the chief of staff, deputy commander of the space forces of the aerospace forces of Russia Igor Morozov, this year the last launch of a military satellite from the Baikonur cosmodrome will be carried out. In the future, launches in the interests of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will be carried out exclusively from the Plesetsk cosmodrome.
According to the chief of staff, to date, the military satellite constellation consists entirely of new devices and has about 150 units.
He also noted that the launch of three new radar stations in Yenisei, Barnaul and Orsk completed the modernization of the ground segment of the Missile Attack Warning System and created a continuous peripheral radar field that allows monitoring the entire perimeter formed by the borders of Russia.
Igor Morozov believes that in a situation where the United States plans to withdraw from the DRMSD, the Missile Attack Warning System is becoming particularly relevant.
It is difficult to disagree with his opinion. Even if, in the foreseeable future, a treaty restricting armaments appears, the availability of a reliable air defense system will never be superfluous.
