Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that his country does not intend to buy American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems. This is due to the fact that Washington does not fulfill the prerequisites associated with the transaction.

The politician made his statement to Turkish journalists on board the plane when he was returning from Sochi (Erdogan was in this city in connection with the participation in the summit of the leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkey to resolve the situation in Syria). According to him, the USA cannot guarantee the fulfillment of the conditions put forward by Ankara.

Joint production, provision of credit and early delivery - these are the criteria to which we attach great importance. Although they are positive about early deliveries, they cannot guarantee credit and co-production.

In addition, Erdogan reaffirmed that his country intends to acquire the S-400 air defense system from Russia. He emphasized that there could be no question of any step back in this matter. Turkish authorities expect these anti-aircraft missile systems to be deployed as early as July.

Earlier in Washington, an unofficial date was set when Ankara was to give an answer about the purchase of Patriot - February 15. US authorities said that if Turkey did not break the deal with Russia for the purchase of S-400 systems by this date, then Washington would withdraw the proposal for the Patriot air defense system.
