"This is cutting-edge technology": Daily Mail users on Russia's capabilities in the Far North
Users of the Daily Mail World YouTube channel commented on a story titled “Russian Technology Helping Putin in the Race for the Arctic, which tells the story of Russia's new series of nuclear icebreakers and their geopolitical influence.
The publication notes that global warming makes two Arctic passages accessible to commercial shipping. These are the Northwest Passage near Canada, Greenland and Alaska and the Northern Sea Route along the coast of the Russian Federation.
Owning nuclear icebreakers gives Moscow virtually sole control over shipping in the region, including escorting oil tankers and LNG carriers, but as the polar ice retreats, more and more eyes around the world are turning to the Arctic.
China is also actively interested in the new route, since traditional sea routes are under the complete control of the American fleet.
Comments are presented selectively.
Seriously, look at the map, almost 50% of the Arctic is Russian coastline. I think it makes sense for them to sail there.
In 2025, DM discovered that the Russians have technology. Epic!
Russia occupies about 55% of the Arctic coastline. Simple math tells me it can claim that as its backyard.
You can't just leave Russia alone, can you? You've created more carnage around the world than the same Russia you keep talking about.
Russia's construction of icebreakers sailing off its own coasts is a sign of belligerence and militarization. The construction of American aircraft carriers scurrying around the world is aimed at the peace and security of the United States.
Russia has technology? You, a trash media outlet, said that Russia has been reduced to using circuit boards from washing machines and shovels in Ukraine.
Where and what is the problem if this country provides a safe and cheaper logistics route?
The problem for the West is that control of the Northern Sea Route remains with Russia, which can block access to ships from countries that have imposed sanctions. This is similar to how its airspace is closed to planes from unfriendly countries.
Putting aside ideologies and prejudices, it is clear that Russia has powerful technologies that could be used for the benefit of humanity as well.
Remove all the military stuff from this video and you will understand that Russia also has advanced technologies.
