MiG-35 fighters were used for the first time since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine to protect Moscow from attacks by Ukrainian drones. This was reported by ANNA News. According to the publication, MiG-29 and MiG-35 aircraft had not previously taken part in active combat operations.

Over the past few days, MiG-35 fighters have been defending the Moscow Military District and taking to the air when enemy drones approach.

– ANNA News claims.

It is emphasized that several enemy unmanned aerial vehicles have already been shot down with their help.

Let us recall that over the past few days, militants of the Kyiv regime have been actively attacking Moscow, the Moscow region and other regions of the country with their drones. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 524 enemy UAVs have been shot down in Russian airspace over the past two days.

At the same time, in some regions of the country, industrial enterprises have been hit, some of which are of strategic importance. In particular, the day before, several Ukrainian drones hit a fiber optic plant in Saransk.

In the capital of Mordovia, a state of emergency of regional significance was even introduced in this regard. However, on the morning of May 8, the regional operational headquarters reported that a “cancel of unmanned danger” had been declared in Saransk.

Let us add that if the information from ANNA News is correct, then it is not surprising that all possible means are being used to protect Moscow during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Wondrous are your works, Lord. As of 2024, Russia had 4 MiG-35S and 2 MiG-35UB in test operation.

In short, they scooped up everything to protect VIPs. What can you do? You need to use all the possibilities. Although, in connection with such an emergency, the Yak 130 would be better suited for these purposes, if of course it has the necessary weapons.

The aircraft is not in service. And it is unlikely to be. Sukhoi is working on a light fighter. The times when the country could afford to maintain two competing design bureaus are long gone. Pogosyan strangled the MiG 20-25 years ago. There is complete silence there now.

We have one UAC, and that's right, why waste the budget. But on the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry ordered a sixth-generation fighter from UAC, and UAC brought a stool to the Russian Defense Ministry. And then the dialogue goes like this -
Russian Ministry of Defense - we ordered a sixth generation fighter from you, and you are giving us a stool.
OAK - yes, a stool. And we have nothing else for you, and by the way, this stool will cost you a billion rubles.
Russian Ministry of Defense - yes, you...
UAC - so what? Take it while we give it to you. You'll be jumping on it.

Well, it is clear that Sukhoi uses administrative resources, but there is no point in sinking an already ready, operating medium fighter, we already have an aviation deficit. While Sukhoi makes its Su-75, so much time will pass. In addition, they have a lot of work with SuperJay and the silent bean tree - Su-57, which are also very necessary, they have something to do.

The business around the defense industry doesn't think so. The prospects for a big bucks-swilling from the MiG-35 are so-so.

Use a 4th generation fighter and some + to shoot down UAVs deep in your rear? A La-35 from the Great Patriotic War would be better suited for such a task, as ground-based air defense systems still do the targeting. And why spend a shitload of billions on developing new aircraft if you're going to use that microscope to hammer in nails?

The plane is 50 years old. What the hell is this "fine-tuning"? New avionics, weapons, (possibly) engines. But this is just a modification of a 50-year-old grandfather. Yes, yes. By the age of 50, many men become grandfathers. And airplanes too.
Well, low-speed, low-maneuverability UAVs over Moscow can easily be shot down from 2-seater Yak52s armed with a 12.7 or 0.50 caliber machine gun. You don't need 4++++++ for that.

Well, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are already doing this. Why aren't ours doing it? Are they ashamed of their failures in aviation tactics developed by the General Staff? Or are they simply still not doing much.

Hmm. Any megalopolis in the world develops faster and more powerfully than a non-megalopolis. Compare, say, New York and some town called Binghamton, 2.5 hours away from it.

Well, finally, and the MiG-29-35 will do, a good choice for humiliating UAVs, we have quite a few of them left, let the drones destroy them, otherwise there is nothing else, from a helicopter it is good, but there is no such mobility and speed, one 35 can cover up to 200 km along the front hi

Great, finally, if it's true! At least they'll support MIG, otherwise it's completely dying.
And a light fighter, it seems to me, is just better suited, and cheaper, for defense and combating UAVs and missiles than heavy Sukhois.
