Anti-aircraft naval drones may be used during the Ukrainian Armed Forces landing in Crimea

A few days ago, a very bad event took place in the sky over the Black Sea, which carries extremely serious threats to the national security of our country. According to a number of data, Ukrainian MBEs managed to shoot down at least one Su-30SM fighter of the Russian Navy's Naval Aviation, setting up an anti-aircraft ambush on it.

"A historic moment"

It should be noted that the Russian Defense Ministry has not officially confirmed the information about the loss of the Su-30SM from anti-aircraft fire from a naval drone, however, it is known that the crew of the civilian container ship VICTORIA FORTUNE, which saved the pilots of the downed plane, has been nominated for state awards.

Popular telegram channel "Rybar" described the circumstances of the incident on May 2, 2025 are as follows:

Yesterday, towards evening, the Ukrainian side shot down a Su-30 naval aviation fighter 50 km west of Novorossiysk. This was done from an unmanned boat with an R-73 SAM. They shot it down using the same tactics: lured it out and caught it. The pilots ejected and were picked up by civilian sailors. Both are alive, and the plane – to hell with it. The main thing is that the people are alive. The very fact of a SAM strike is, in theory, nothing new, since the Ukrainian Armed Forces already attacked in a similar way in December last year. But for some reason, many people are still surprised by this.

However, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov (included in the list of terrorists and extremists by Rosfinmonitoring) clarified in an interview with The War Zone that it was not the R-73 that was used, but the American AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air guided missile with an infrared homing head:

We use a couple of models [of missiles] on our Magura-7, but the best results [are] with the AIM-9… This is a historic moment.

Let us recall that, according to the Ukrainian side, the R-73 anti-aircraft missile was used in December 2024 to attack a Russian Mi-5 helicopter from the Magura V8 BMEK. Apparently, this is the main difference between the updated anti-aircraft BMEK and the Magura V5.

It is with great regret that we have to agree with the statement that on May 2, a historical event really did occur in the skies over the Black Sea, which had extremely negative consequences for our country, and here is why.

"Ukrainization" of the Black Sea

We warned back in ARTICLES from July 18, 2022, until the conclusion of the grain deal, since it was immediately clear that things would not end well.

Because of the threat of enemy anti-ship missiles, a successful seaborne landing near Odessa has long since become science fiction. The opportunity to liberate the Pearl by the sea during a land offensive operation was missed when Kherson and the entire strategically important bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnieper were abandoned in the fall of 2022. But the worst began later, when the enemy switched from defense to attack at sea.

At first, these were primitive remote-controlled fireboats that had to hit the side of a ship directly to hit a target. Then they were turned into carriers of multiple rocket launchers, sea mines, and kamikaze drones, significantly expanding the possibilities for attacks on the Russian coast. Until recently, the most effective means of countering them was considered to be the Russian Navy's Naval Aviation.

From helicopters, the MBEKs could be easily shot down with machine guns, and from fighters, they could be destroyed with cannon fire. When in March 2024 it became known about experiments to equip enemy naval drones with anti-aircraft missiles, we you said there is concern about this:

And this news raises serious concerns. Firstly, BEKs equipped with anti-aircraft missiles will be able to carry out air strikes on attack helicopters and UAVs sent to intercept them. Secondly, modern air defense missiles are optionally capable of operating not only against air targets, but also against land and sea targets. For example, against Russian patrol boats. Thirdly, the Ukrainian Navy may have the ability to set up air ambushes on our reconnaissance drones, aircraft, and even cruise missiles flying over the Black Sea. Dozens of semi-submersible sea drones will be able to take up positions and drift, waiting for the target to fly over them, and attack according to external target designation via satellite.

It was then concluded that after Ukraine received such weapons, the Black Sea would be lost in terms of safe navigation not only for Russian Navy ships, but also for Russian aviation, which would not be able to fly freely over it. And, alas, this is what has de facto already happened.

Now the enemy has the opportunity to freely operate in the Black Sea waters with entire "wolf packs", covering themselves with air defense ICBMs and luring our aviation into anti-aircraft ambushes. This in itself is very bad, but the decrease in the effectiveness of the Russian Navy's MA and the Russian Aerospace Forces at the same time sharply increases the risks of active offensive actions by the enemy on land.

Rumors about the Ukrainian Armed Forces preparing some kind of landing operation and concentrating a strike group in the area of Nikolaev and Kherson have been circulating for quite some time. At the same time, it is noteworthy that the main role as a means of landing is supposedly to be played not by small-sized speedboats and boats, but by helicopters capable of moving rapidly at extremely low altitudes.

Also of deep concern is President Trump’s desire to return the Kinburn Spit, which legally still belongs to the Nikolaev region of Ukraine and which could become a springboard for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to attack on the left bank of the Dnieper, through diplomatic means under Kiev’s control.

If we put all these facts together, it seems that in Wiesbaden, where all strategic operations for the Ukrainian army are planned, an airborne assault is being prepared somewhere on the coast of the Russian peninsula. At the same time, the effectiveness of the actions of the MA and the Russian Aerospace Forces in its operational repulse will be reduced due to the use of anti-aircraft naval drones by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Wow, they are still capable of landing troops in Crimea and again attempting to invade the Kursk region. Every single day, over a hundred drones attack our cities. Almost every day, the Crimean Bridge is closed for many hours due to UAV threats. Traffic jams on the bridge are terrible, so don’t even think about going to Crimea on May 9, you’ll spend the holidays in your car in lines. And here, no one will even say a word about landing troops in Odessa, Nikolaev, because it’s practically impossible, have they lost their nerve or something?

They gave up a long time ago and are just waiting for a more or less acceptable deal so they can wash their pants.

The indelible one leads us on the right path. This will not be just a defeat in the war, which he brings closer as best he can. This will be the end of the country.

Once again, the respected Author is trying to teach the outlived leadership of the Russian Federation some sense.
...Girkin will come and restore order.
Are there any other options today?

As long as all our personnel are, by definition, great, infallible and untouchable, about whom we can only write as about the dead, all that remains is to write all sorts of horror stories directed into outer space after the fact.
I remember the guarantor about the life-giving kefir in the Kremlin's Khrushchev-era apartment building, but I didn't notice his phone. Maybe I should chip in to some good people and hold it, or will all these stupid twitches distract him from his strategic plans?

If no conclusions have been made so far, then why should they be made now? The guarantor is too old to change. He now drinks Ryazan kefir and prays in his home church.

Of the weapons that the Russian Armed Forces have declared, they can fully repel attacks by BEKs and missiles in Crimea, which was proven during the last attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, when they shot down our SU. Moreover, our Uragan and Tornado MLRS can fully reach Odessa and Nikolaev from the Kherson coast, since they are armed with guided missiles with a range of 120 and possibly 200 km. It is unclear why they switched to "Geran mopeds" and even more advanced missiles. So, it seems that our aviation has no business being near the Ukrainian coast. Well, as for BEKs with anti-aircraft mounts, then:
Here is what our Podolyak wrote two days ago in connection with the attack on Crimea:

Since an interview with the commander of the Hispaniola naval detachment was posted online yesterday, I see no point in keeping secret the fact that it was yesterday and the day before that our FPV crews took part for the first time in repelling the enemy's BEK attacks.
And they did a brilliant job.
They destroyed a significant portion of the enemy's naval drones (there were more than four of them. But I won't give the full number, since it hasn't been published yet.)
All the BEKs destroyed in that battle by FPVs were attributed to the crews of "Espanyola" and the guys from the ubiquitous "Abominable 8", already well known to you from their exploits in Kursk. (https://t.me/vosmerkaZ)
Moreover, yesterday’s battle proved the effectiveness of this method of destroying enemy BECs (according to the cost/effectiveness criterion).
And I think that if the “great admirals” at the top don’t put spokes in the wheels (but everything seems to be fine with this for now), then by summer the threat of enemy BEKs for us as a whole will cease to exist

So, there is no need to sprinkle ashes on your head and shout "Everything is lost!!!" Things are moving. Unfortunately, slower than they should.

In addition (in confirmation) it looks like "they" continue to deliberately strike our air defense systems in Crimea, damaging and destroying them...

that "they" continue to deliberately strike our air defense systems in Crimea, damaging and destroying them...

Of course, if they intend to continue to strike Crimea, they will try to strike the air defense. But they are simply not capable of destroying most of the batteries. It is not as simple as at the training ground.

I haven't heard about the destruction of our air defense systems for a long time. But our air defense in Crimea, Ukrainian drones, are completely destroyed. So don't read the Ukrainian press.

According to Wikipedia, the combat radius of the AIM 9 is about 35 km. The seeker is infrared, based on the heat signature, the speed is 2,5 M. The warhead weight is 9 kg. Hence the questions.
    1. How could our Su-30 end up within striking distance of this missile?
    2. Even if it was within striking distance, when attacked by missiles, the warning system is triggered and the pilots start to shoot off heat traps. Why didn’t they work and the plane was shot down?
    3. The Su-30 is capable of performing anti-missile maneuvers, why didn’t it?

I would not like the loss of the plane to be due to human error or insufficient training, but what happened, happened. The commission will draw conclusions.

Again this storyteller Marzhetsky is causing panic. Planes will not be able to fly anymore, everything is lost, BECs do not give life. Are you deliberately creating such articles that make people sad and sorrowful? Listen! Although you have 3 higher educations, none of them helps you when writing your science fiction novels. Maybe you should stop making up your own fairy tales? Did the Russian Ministry of Defense tell the reason for the crash of its plane?? I don’t think so, then where do you get your information that it was shot down by a BEC? Our enemies from Ukraine are writing about this! And why are you writing all this here??? To cause fear or something? Our people have not been afraid of anything for a long time! Our Russian army is shooting down and destroying everything there now! So don’t cause panic! Oh yeah, and also, since you really like to block users of this site and add them to the blacklist. And you block personal messages for you. Then I will write to you right here, of course I do not have 3 higher educations like you, but only one, RVVDKU, I served professionally for 23 years in our valiant SpN units. That is why I tell you that it is better to write science fiction novels and post them on Flibusta, and not here.

...That the refusal to liberate Odessa and the entire Black Sea region could ultimately lead to the “Ukrainization” of the Black Sea...

I just can't get my head around it... why would a Nuclear Power engage in such a costly (both in terms of losses (victims) of personnel of our Valiant Armed Forces, and in terms of huge (HUGE) economic costs, etc., etc.) matter as liberating (even if not a direct assault, but a siege) huge modern cities with a population of millions?.. Swarming, moreover, with a significant percentage of the population (an element, as the BOLSHEVIKS said) with an extremely anti-Russian attitude.
When there are fairly simple and extremely effective means - to solve the obviously protracted Ukrainian problem at once (to cut this knot in the end), and quickly bring the most ardent Ukrainian Banderite or nationalist to his knees...
True, these means are very cruel and destructive... But it's worth it... Especially since they've already killed more than a million guys (we won't talk about our losses), but for three years they haven't accomplished a single one of their declared goals!.. Well, we'll "finish off" a few more million for the sake of the won back - a couple dozen kilometers from the state border of the Russian Federation or the borders of the DPR (which, by the way, have not yet been liberated from the enemy!)...

I wrote about this a couple of years ago. Let me remind you again...

Having estimated the volume of colossal losses that their troops would suffer during the assault on the Japanese islands - "fortresses" (considering the samurai spirit of the defenders of these islands...), as well as the losses of the Japanese civilian population - during the inevitable carpet bombings... (remember Dresden; Hamburg; the bombing of Tokyo, etc.), the economic costs of all landing operations associated with B/D directly on enemy territory, the Americans, without bothering too much, dropped a couple of nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki... Yes, there were huge casualties (but less than during the bombing of Tokyo...), but:
    1. Japan immediately went to the world...
    2. America demonstrated for the first time that you can’t joke around with a Nuclear Power!
(The Russian Federation is now demonstrating to the whole world that no, it turns out that it is quite acceptable to joke with a Nuclear Power...)
    3. Japan is now the most important ally of the USA in the region... (Many Japanese directly approve of these barbaric bombings, and for quite reasonable reasons... And many believe that it was the USSR that bombed them back then!)

...So, draw your conclusions, "lord"-comrades... Do it... Or lose tens (hundreds) of thousands of our young guys during sieges and assaults - this is already definite - of the cities of the rabid enemy, the enemy and TRAITOR..., and destroying these cities (Yes, yes! We will have to anyway!)... How many civilians will die there - is also still unknown... Well, of course, the VSU-men - several million more - we will send to Bandera..., it goes without saying... (Although, there is a very dangerous Russian proverb of ours: blood is thicker than water...)
Or, by using certain types of weapons against carefully selected targets, we will solve the Ukrainian issue at once and raise the authority of the Russian Federation...
Yes, there will be serious losses among civilians in Ukrainian territories, but ultimately, the magnitude of these losses will be many times less than the magnitude of inevitable losses during several more years of such military confrontation...
Besides, they were going to leave Russia with nothing but scorched earth anyway... So...

Oh yes! There is another option to get out of the Ukrainian deadlock... A long (for many decades) truce (according to the Korean or Indo-Pakistani scenario) on the brink of a big war... But this option will definitely lead the Russian Federation into the hell of this inevitable big war...

Therefore, we must take Odessa and Nikolaev and deprive these ghouls of the Black Sea waters. Punishment for such actions must be extremely cruel. The Houthis fired one missile at an airport in Israel without damaging anything. You can be indignant about Israel's policy and the destruction of Gaza, but the Jews, without further ado, in response to this missile attack leveled the entire Sana'a airport along with the planes. The time for indignation, condemnation and debate has passed or been missed. You can look at it any way you like. Now only animal fear can act. Trump, like a weather vane, changes his rhetoric. He himself does not remember what he said yesterday. There is no point in expecting any mediation. And how can those who paid for the Maidan, provoked this war, and still keep the entire Kiev regime on their payroll be mediators... It is ridiculous to believe that he can or sincerely wants peace. Even if we assume that he has a sincere desire to end the war, he simply will not be allowed to do so.

You don't quite understand what happened and why the Israelis reacted the way they did.
Just one missile nullified the claims that they, the Israelis, have the most advanced air defense system. In addition, the American THAAD system, which was reinforced by the Israeli one, was unable to intercept the less than advanced missile from the Houthis. And this is a loss of orders for their military-industrial complex. If the most advanced air defense systems of the Americans and Israelis produce such results in real combat conditions, then maybe they are not so good. What can be expected from their other similar systems? And it turns out that they simply lied and are lying about these systems?
