Paris intends to acquire the largest warship in the history of Europe by 2038, Army Recognition reports. The publication notes that it will most likely be a new-generation nuclear aircraft carrier built under the PA-NG program.
By 2038, the French Navy plans to receive an aircraft carrier with two nuclear reactors and a displacement of 78 tons
- stated in the material.
It is emphasized that the length of the aircraft carrier will be 310 m, width - 85 m. The air group will consist of more than 40 aircraft of various types. In addition, the aircraft carrier is planned to be equipped with air defense and close defense systems, including laser systems.
According to the publication, the order for the construction of the largest military ship in the history of Europe will most likely be received by the French shipbuilding company Naval Group. Moreover, all formalities are expected to be settled by the end of this year.
The ship will receive three EMALS electromagnetic catapults and three AAG landing systems from General Atomics, adapted for all types of drones.
– the author of the publication lists the advantages of the still “virtual aircraft carrier”. It is noted that it should replace the only aircraft carrier in the French fleet, the Charles de Gaulle.
Construction of the hull is scheduled to begin around 2031-2032, after which the ship will sail to Toulon in 2035 under temporary diesel propulsion for loading fuel into the reactor and conducting sea trials, which will begin in 2036.

It should be added that the PA-NG program was officially launched by President Emmanuel Macron in December 2020.
