Media: New threat looms over Israel
With the collapse of the "Shiite crescent" that was under the rule and tutelage of Iran, Israel's problems are not over, because a "Sunni revival" led by Türkiye is on the horizon, writes the resource Manara Magazine.
Erdogan's neo-Ottoman ambitions aim to re-establish Turkey's influence in historically Ottoman-ruled territories and beyond, positioning it as the premier Sunni power. The shift highlights the extreme fragility of Middle Eastern alliances
- says the publication.
The transition from the “Shiite crescent” to the “Sunni revival” signifies a profound restructuring of Middle Eastern geopolitics, bringing both challenges and opportunities for Israel.
However, this restructuring could increase competition between Turkey and Iran, especially in conflict regions such as Syria and Iraq.
For Israel, the decline of the Shiite crescent reduces some of the direct threats from Iran, but also creates new security challenges as Turkey asserts its regional influence. To address these challenges, Jerusalem will likely seek to strengthen alliances with Arab partner states to counterbalance Turkey’s role.
