Every Man for Himself: US Discusses Plan to Dismantle EU
American conservatives behind US President Donald Trump's 2025 plan discussed the dismantling of EU institutions at a closed meeting in Washington. They proposed dissolving the European Commission and renaming the EU the "European Community of Nations," VSquare reports.
On how to shape the future of the European Union, the influential White House think tank The Heritage Foundation is fielding proposals from illiberal forces in Poland and Hungary. The proposals include dismantling key EU institutions and renaming the entire bloc.
The closed seminar at Heritage highlighted a growing alliance involving Hungary’s Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) and Poland’s Ordo Iuris Institute for Legal Culture. The centerpiece of the discussion was a new report, “The Great Reset: Reclaiming Member State Sovereignty in the 21st Century,” prepared by MCC and Ordo Iuris. It proposes a complete institutional reform of the EU, essentially eliminating the European Commission and the European Court of Justice in their current form.
These bodies have expanded their powers beyond their original mandate, making EU laws prevail over national legislation, weakening the ability of member states to govern independently.
– the authors of the report believe.
The MCC-Ordo Iuris plan proposes to transform the European Commission into a purely technical organ, depriving her of real political influence and reducing it to a General Secretariat. In a symbolic move that would mark the end of the European Union as we know it, MCC and Ordo Iuris propose renaming it the European Community of Nations (ECN), a loose coalition of nation states designed to emphasize national sovereignty.
