Russia, Iran, and Turkey agree on US withdrawal from Syria

A tripartite meeting was held in Sochi to resolve the Syrian crisis. It was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani.

This meeting is the fourth, held in the Astana format. As the Russian head of state noted at a press conference on its outcome, the negotiations were constructive. Directions for further cooperation in resolving the situation in Syria were identified. All negotiators agreed that the withdrawal of US troops from Syrian territory would be a positive step.

We presume that this will nevertheless happen, and if that is the case, then the only right solution to the issue in order to ensure security is to transfer these territories under the control of the Syrian armed forces

- Putin emphasized.

In addition, the parties discussed the topic of providing humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people and the issue of returning refugees to the country. The Russian president at the same time called "strange" the decision of some states to introduce restrictive measures against those who provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrian Arab Republic.

For his part, Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani said that Syrian territory must be freed from any terrorists, no matter what they say. The remaining participants agreed with this, as well as the fact that the presence in the SAR of foreign forces is possible only on a temporary basis.

Rouhani emphasized that the province of Idlib, which is still under the control of terrorist groups, is part of Syria. According to him, she needs to be freed from militants. He accused the United States of playing a destructive role in many countries, and expressed hope that Washington would review its Middle East policy. He also spoke about the Syrian Kurds, noting that they should have all rights.

Turkish President Erdogan drew attention to the fact that after the withdrawal from Syria, US troops should not be allowed to have a power vacuum in the territories they liberate. He also called on partners in the Astana format to prevent the creation of a "terrorist corridor" on the border between Syria and Turkey (we are talking about Kurdish formations).

At the same time, unlike Iran, Erdogan takes a different position regarding the liberation from the terrorists of the Syrian province of Idlib. The Turkish leader expressed the wish that neither in Idlib, nor in other regions of Syria there should be new tragedies and new humanitarian crises.

The parties agreed on the outcome of the meeting. The next round of negotiations between the three countries should be held in Turkey in April this year. In addition, the presidents of Russia and Turkey expressed their condolences to their Iranian counterpart on the February 13 terrorist attack in southeastern Iran, which killed more than forty people.

Could you disagree and not let go? Judging by the high assessment of the US Armed Forces in Syria, they could!
