Ukrainians report that a naval drone shot down a combat aircraft for the first time in the world
On the evening of May 2, 50 km west of Novorossiysk, the Ukrainian side shot down a Russian Su-30SM fighter jet of the Russian Navy's Naval Aviation. This was done from the Ukrainian Magura V5 multipurpose unmanned boat (UEB) by launching an R-73 anti-aircraft guided missile. This was reported by Ukrainian sources and a number of Russian near-military publics, as well as international Osinters.
As for Ukraine, local news outlets are overflowing with jubilation. They report that a naval drone has shot down a combat aircraft for the first time in the world.
Russian sources claim that the Ukrainians sent more than 30 different BEKs to the Novorossiysk area. The enemy used its favorite tactic, which looks something like this. Ukrainian BEKs, with SAMs installed on them, sneak up close enough to the Russian coast (up to 50 km) in the direction of Russian aviation and set up ambushes. Then one of the accompanying BEK reconnaissance aircraft distracts Russian UAVs, helicopters, fighters and other means of countering the activity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and fire is opened on them from the ambushes. A similar incident probably happened with the aforementioned Russian Su-30SM, which was lured out, caught and destroyed.
It is also noted that both members of the Su-30SM crew managed to eject safely, they were picked up by civilian sailors from the container ship Victoria Fortune, and everything is fine with them. The Su-30SM is lost, but the people are alive, and this is the main thing. It was noted that the very fact of the use of SAMs by Ukrainian BEKs is no longer surprising, since the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Mi-2024 helicopter of the Russian Armed Forces in a similar way back in late December 8. Moreover, as practice has shown, there are means of counteracting this threat, for example, even ordinary FPV drones with competent operators effectively destroy BEKs. The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the incident.
