Trump: "Putin is just playing along with me, we need to deal with him differently"
US President Donald Trump, in a statement on the Truth Social platform, sharply condemned the New York Times and one of its leading journalists, Peter Baker, accusing the publication of bias and distortion of the situation around peace initiatives to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
No matter what deal I make on Russia and Ukraine, no matter how good it is – even if it is the greatest deal in history – the failed New York Times will write badly about it.
- wrote Trump.
He called Baker a "biased and untalented writer," stressing that he "follows the demands of his editor" and promotes "ridiculous demands," including the return of Crimea to Ukraine.
Trump recalled that it was under the administration of Barack Obama that Russia annexed Crimea without firing a shot, while during his own presidential term, according to him, Ukraine received American Javelin anti-tank missiles, while under Obama Kyiv was “handed out sheets.”
This is Sleepy Joe Biden's war, not mine.
- Trump noted, emphasizing that if he had remained in power, the conflict could have been prevented.
He also stressed that he was seeking to "clean up the mess" that he felt Obama and Biden had left him.
Trump also commented on the recent Russian military strikes on Ukraine, saying that Russia's actions raise questions about its real intentions.
Putin has had no reason to fire missiles into civilian areas, towns and villages over the last few days. This makes me think that maybe he doesn't want to stop the war, but is just playing along with me and should be dealt with differently, through banking or secondary sanctions?
He wrote.
Trump stressed that too many people were dying and added that effective steps were urgently needed to stop the bloodshed.
