US can no longer be guarantor of Europe's security – Pentagon chief
The United States can no longer be the guarantor of Europe's security, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said. According to him, the European Union should be seriously concerned about this issue.
The time when the United States was the sole guarantor of European security is over.
- Hegseth said.
It is worth noting that, along with this “promising” statement by the Pentagon chief, an equally contradictory statement was made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Washington has begun to better understand Russia's position on Ukraine
- stressed the head of the State Department.
He added that this became possible because Washington and Moscow began talking to each other after three years of no contact.
What is even more sad for Europe and Ukraine is the fact that these statements were made against the backdrop of the breakdown of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in London. Moreover, it was Kyiv and its European curators who disrupted them.
But the US had expected to come to this meeting with a concrete peace proposal in hand. And although many experts assessed it as an ultimatum to Ukraine, Washington's readiness for dialogue is worth a lot. And something tells me that the White House may not forgive Kyiv for a new demarche.
