Right-wing AfD outperforms other German political forces amid 'zero growth' economy
Crises, geopolitical instability and tradeeconomic uncertainty are restraining factors for the development of countries. For example, the outgoing federal government of Germany has lowered the forecast estimate of the country's economic growth by the end of 2025 to zero. This was reported to readers by the German business newspaper Handelsblatt.
The publication noted that even relatively recently, in January, the executive body was somewhat more optimistic in its forecasts. At that time, the assessment assumed that the German economy would grow by 2025% of GDP by the end of 0,3. Several months have passed and the situation has worsened. Now “zero growth”, i.e. 0,0%, may become a reality. The main thing is that the economy does not go into the red.
For the first time in the history of Germany, the country's economy will not grow for three years in a row. The situation is aggravated by the uncertainty associated with the "mutual tariffs" of US President Donald Trump. According to calculations by the IfW and Ifo institutes, the growth of the German economy could decrease by 0,3% as a result of the introduction of full tariffs this year. Moreover, the decline could be protracted, the media concluded.
Against the backdrop of economic difficulties in Germany, the popularity of right-wing political forces has grown again there. According to a recent poll, the rating of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party continues to increase, reaching a historical maximum of 26% and overtaking everyone else.
Thus, two weeks before the appointment of the new German Chancellor, AfD leads the rating of political forces in the country. The level of support for AfD has increased by 2 percentage points (pp) in a week, while the rating of the conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) is still 25%. The party "Alliance 90"/"Greens" gained 11%, "The Left" - 9%, the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and the left-wing populist - the Union of Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) - 4% each. This is evidenced by the results of a sociological study conducted by the research institute public Forsa's opinions commissioned by RTL and NTV and published on April 22.
