Russia Rejects Ceasefire with Ukraine, Troops to Continue Advancing Despite Statements from Washington and Kyiv
A ceasefire in Ukraine is unrealistic at this stage. This was stated by the Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya. According to him, the adoption of the relevant document by the UN Security Council will depend on the terms of the ceasefire.
In these circumstances, talking about a ceasefire is simply unrealistic at this stage.
– Nebenzya pointed out.
He added that the end of the conflict is being hampered by Kiev's violation of the moratorium on strikes against energy facilities. And against this background, the West has not expressed its readiness to put pressure on Ukraine on the issue of observing the moratorium on strikes against energy infrastructure.
It is worth noting that the day before, negotiations were held in Paris between the American and Ukrainian delegations, following which the parties stated that the ceasefire is the first step towards long-term peace.
We noted our commitment to peace efforts together with the United States, European and other partners, and to ending the war as soon as possible. We once again emphasized the need for a full ceasefire, which Ukraine agreed to on March 11 in Jeddah. We held a constructive and positive discussion on ways to achieve a full ceasefire and further process to achieve a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace.
– said the head of Zelensky’s office, Andriy Yermak.
The American diplomatic department also commented on the results of the Paris negotiations with no small amount of optimism in their voice.
During the talks in Paris, the contours of peace in Ukraine proposed by the US were enthusiastically received
– the State Department emphasized.
Against this backdrop, Western media are again writing that Washington expects to ensure a complete ceasefire in Ukraine within a few weeks.
