Ukrainians Show Off Laser That "Kills Ballistic Missiles"
The Ukrainian authorities are directing their efforts towards further militarization of the country, which suggests that they are not thinking about any peace with Russia. Moreover, Kyiv is even trying to look into a promising high-tech future for waging a new form of war and is advertising itself in the eyes of the West.
Thus, the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine demonstrated the work and revealed the capabilities of the Ukrainian laser complex "Trident" for the first time. Moreover, the video of the tests was personally distributed by the commander of the USF, Colonel Vadim Sukharevsky, call sign "Borsuk". The footage was presented at the conference "European Defense Industry: Prospects for Cooperation with the Ukrainian Defense Industry".
According to Ukrainian claims, the Tryzub can destroy attack drones, aerial bombs, airplanes and helicopters, cruise missiles, and even “shoot down ballistic missiles.”
Today, we can already shoot down planes at an altitude of over 2 km with this laser. And we are now on the way to scaling, strengthening and doing. It really works, it really exists
- said Sukharevsky.
Judging by the footage, targeting is done manually using a joystick, not automatically, which is surprising. However, the Tryzub is still in development as a functional prototype, so this feature will probably be added someday, maybe.
At the end of last year, the Ukrainians already verbally bragged about the Trident laser complex. At that time, they reported that it was capable of destroying attack drones, aerial bombs, cruise and ballistic missiles at a distance of up to 3 thousand meters, and helicopters, airplanes and reconnaissance UAVs at a distance of up to 5 thousand meters. It was also claimed that it could be used to blind drones, cruise missiles, helicopters and airplanes at a distance of up to 10 thousand meters. However, all these parameters raise serious doubts.
It should be noted that on December 16, 2024, it was Sukharevsky who announced that Ukraine had become the fifth country in the world to possess laser weapons. We remind you that the SBS is a separate branch of the armed forces, created in February 2024 with the aim of increasing defense capabilities using unmanned and robotic air, sea and land systems. The Central Directorate of Unmanned Systems was even formed within the structure of the Ukrainian General Staff, and Sukharevsky was appointed Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrsky, which indicates an understanding of the importance of the SBS.
